New York Mayor Considers Mandatory Travel Ban
With up 24 inches of snow now forecast for New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Saturday he's considering banning all cars from city roads.
"We are considering a full travel ban," he said at a news conference Saturday.
City buses stopped running Saturday at noon at the mayor's order, and de Blasio warned New Yorkers that wind gusts of up to 50 mph were making roads "incredibly dangerous."
"This is bad and it is getting worse rapidly," he said. "Expect whiteout conditions."
The mayor also urged parents to keep their kids inside.
"There will be time for fun in the snow tomorrow," he said.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency Saturday morning and also told drivers to stay off the roads.
